A very happy new year to you. You haven’t heard from me in a few weeks- and I wanted to share why. I took a break over the past few weeks to recover from almost burning out.
I overworked myself in 2024.
I achieved a lot that I’m darn proud of. I did talks on big stages in Germany, The Netherlands and Hungary. I taught a public speaking course to an MBA class at the Central European University. I coached 300+ founders and execs to speak with confidence…
(I even got the elusive LinkedIn Top Voice blue badge).
But.
I did it all while overbooking my calendar and not giving myself enough time to recuperate.
I’m recovering now and putting myself first in 2025.
That’s the aim. I’ll let you know how it goes (wish me luck!)
Back to the big talks – I wanted to share how I never feel nervous no matter where I speak.
Or wait…let me be more honest than that.
Everyone feels the nerves.
But the pros know how to not let the nerves interfere with their performance.
One big secret is warming up.
I want to show you the different types of warmups you can do – so that you can create your own.
(It can become your superpower).
So there are 3 types of warmups you can do (I explain one of them using a video):
First type – physical warmups
These are the kind you’d do before a workout. Try doing stretches, arm rolls, jumping jacks.
Some speakers even do a dance to loosen up and get the blood pumping.
Second type – vocal warmups
Here’s how you can warm up your voice – I made a video for you:
Third type – facial warmups
This is what a lot of people forget – but warming up your face is what helps you become more expressive.
The more expressive you are when you speak, the more engaging you’ll be.
So here’s an easy way to warm up your facial muscles:
Open and close your mouth a few times.
That will loosen up your jaw so you’ll enunciate more and express yourself better.
Now go and conquer those nerves rockstar.
