So LinkedIn approached me to create their first-ever course on Boosting Your Public Speaking with Generative AI.
And I had mixed emotions.
(Btw you may not know this – but I actually have two official LinkedIn Learning courses on Public Speaking. (One of them has 22,000+ students!))

as always, an extremely flattering freeze frame
I have to admit – I have a love-hate relationship with AI.
I love the idea of AI. I’m all for humanity taking the next leap and evolving to create space for real AI to co-exist with us.
But I hate that at this point in time, it still takes quite a while to get exactly what you need from AI (if you’re a regular layperson using it like me, and not a fancy prompts engineer).
So the question is –
Can AI really help you become a more impactful speaker?
And if so – how?
My answer (as a public speaking expert, not an AI expert) is – YES and NO.
YES – AI can help you with:
→ Brainstorming on presentation outlines
But it can’t shouldn’t create the entire presentation for you (because it just won’t sound like you).
→ Telling you how fast you’re speaking, and how many filler words you’re using
BUT it can’t help you to fix that habit of speaking too fast or too slow.

Actual screenshot of my pacing during a coaching call
→ Being your interview partner (for a job or a podcast!)
But it can’t help you amplify your stories and personality so you become more memorable when you speak.
(And of course now AI can try to mimic you in a video as an AI avatar but…will that video look and sound like YOU? Haha time will tell).
Yep I’m super excited by the possibilities of using AI –
Especially when it comes to enhancing your public speaking.
And I’ve been using AI tools with hundreds of my clients to help them become more aware of their speaking habits.
But the actual WORK that you have to put in to become more powerful as a speaker – is all up to you.
As for the LinkedIn Learning course – I’ll be filming it in a few weeks and you’ll be the first to know when it’s out on LinkedIn!
